Erima Jackson is a teacher by Profession, he holds a Bachelor's degree, diploma and certificate in education from Makerere and Kyambogo universities plus other qualifications in various fields as well. He served as a teacher, Deputy and Head Teacher in Kampala Capital City schools before taking on full time duties at ULITU Secretariat. He joined the labour Movement as early as 2002 and has risen through the ranks from school representative (shop steward) to national leader
He is a trade unionist, esteemed founder member of UNATU in 2003 and ULITU in 2018. He served as a national secretary for conditions of service and disputes in UNATU from 2003 to 2006. In 2006 UNATU nominated him and he received an award for his exceptional dedication and outstanding service as a school leader. Br. Erima was elected General Secretary of ULITU after its registration by government in 2018. He is currently a member of the COFTU Executive Board, a Chairperson Supervisory Committee of ULITU members SACCO Ltd which offers direct economic opportunities to teachers who are members of the union. He has represented both & COFTU and ULITU at different levels and fora.
He has also served as a member of public Service negotiating and consultative council, a trainer in Labour union matters and for several years a member of the National organising committee for International Labour Day, world Teachers’ Day and World Day Against Child Labour during World Teachers’ Day celebrations in 2023, Br. Erima together with other colleagues from sister unions successfully lobbied the President of the Republic of Uganda to fund Teachers Union Sacco's.
On 1st May 2024, during International Labour Day national celebrations, Br. Erima was awarded a Diamond Jubilee medal by the President of the Republic of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in recognition of his impeccable truck record impactful stewardship and Loyalty to the country. As a General Secretary, he has dedicated his life to leveraging his skills to support workers education and strengthen the Labour movement. He mobilizes, recruits and trains workers on labour rights, responsibilities and wellbeing because they are the engine for Socio-economic transformation who deserve to be treated with dignity and renumerated satisfactorily.
Bro. Erima is a strong advocate for decent work, he is a family man and loves the Lord. He speaks very vehemently against Child Labour and supports all government programmes that enable all school age going young people, to attain basic and suited education.
